Detroit: Become Human
This game is the modern interpretation of the old point and click games from 1990. This is my first time playing this type of game. I think that the only point and click game that I've ever played till the end was Full throttle'. In the beginning I thought that this game was pretty boring due to my time spent playing fast paced FPS. However, this game is deep, emotional and you really feel the character's stories and pain. The magnificent soundtrack helps to build this game's world and setting. It's the type of game that makes you think and reflect on philosophical and sociological questions of the world. It reminds me of the movies "I, robot", "A.I.", "X-men" and "Blade Runner".
In comparison to Remedy games I very much prefer how Quantic Dream develops their stories. Remedy resorts to TV shows, logs, files, long flashbacks, backwards storytelling which makes it hard for me to follow. Detroit is much more straight forward. It has a lot of branching paths to choose from, which adds a lot of replay value, but every choice you make can only lead you forward. There are no turning backs or loops. There are some magazines with short news to read, unlike Remedy which makes you spend a lot of time deviating from the main story and path. Quantic Dream foresaw ChatGPT years before it went live!
The graphics already reached near real life fidelity. That's without RT. There isn't much difference between PC Ultra and PS4. You lose sharpness and resolution but that's about it.
Compare it to Naughty Dog and you see that Quantic Dream doesn't want the player to control every movement because this game isn't about action and skills. It's about choosing paths.
Downsides
Confusing camera here and there
Experienced difficulty is hard on keyboard. I missed many QTEs because of it.
The choices have one word and they often mislead you. I didn't get the happy ending in my first playthrough because many choices made weren't the optimal ones. I got a bittersweet ending. I think that the choices being one word was a deliberate choice. Notwithstanding, they often feel like a cognitive deficit of sorts. One word alone can have multiple meanings and this is what confused me.
For example: "Ana". What about "Ana"? Accuse Ana? Interrogate Ana? Leave Ana? Sometimes the context is clear, but often times not. The NPC asks you a question and you have to choose between "sincere", "distant" and "indifferent". I choose "distant" and the character answers "I don't know". Is that "distant" for the developers?
I suspect that there is something about language or culture going on. Because one word is faster to read and many times the game puts you under pressure of time limits to choose one. If you consider chinese, one word would be one ideogram, which is even shorter to read. The choice "threaten" for me felt like physical aggression, not some aggressive phrase. The choice "leave" sounds literally leaving, not "ending the conversation". Other times you have the choices Friendly / Rational and often you feel mislead because what is considered friendly or rational very much depends on culture.
