Crysis Remastered
This game is nothing more than a showcase of tech. Almost a playable techdemo. I played it out of curiosity. I felt like Crytek was trying to make their own Halo killer game. They created a story that combines north koreans with aliens. The environments combine Lost, The Day After Tomorrow, Predator, Independance Day and Battleship. Nothing in the story has its origins explained. You don't know where the nanosuit came from or the aliens themselves.
Poor design everywhere. The mechanics, the suit (the concept is cool with stealth and armor modes, but the energy drain severely limits it), the level design, the dialogues, the missions. The island is an open space with nothing to do, except appreciate graphics. The extreme setting "Can it run Crysis?" is extremely unstable and makes the game unplayable with lots of crashes. The segments with vehicles seem to be a straight copy and paste from Halo, except that there is no NPC to fire the gun for you. The indoor part inside the alien structure is dark and without gravity it becomes a pain to navigate or even go where you want to go. The blizzard part doesn't have enough ammo and the turret they provide is easily destroyed. It's also almost useless because the alien ship flies above i and you can't aim straight up. The escape the island part with an aircraft was hard to navigate because it was hard to control it. They wanted to demonstrate physics. Fine. But tornadoes do not form in between mountains.
During the last boss you hear the NPC tell you that you have to stay close to the alien, without giving any instructions on how to defeat it. I had to use the rocket launcher and learn it by myself just because the rocket launcher was provided there.
Rage 2 was much more fun with its skills and upgrades.
