Prey (2017)
This game is a huge design lesson. In comparison to Bioshock it's slower and more tactical. Bioshock had more action packed in. In terms of plot I'd say that Bioshock is a bit deeper. The level design is intrincate, with a strong bond between art and design. I imagine how hard it is to make sure that every piece works. This game is designed around problem solving and for every problem there are multiple solutions. You can choose different skills and different approaches. One thing that is great in Prey is the level design. Each part of the space station has its own theme and function, which is very much the same idea in Bioshock.
Unfortunately, I'd say that this type of game has a much narrower target audience than other games. Not everyone likes slow paced games and games that require tons of reading. Compare it to Halo, Far Cry and other big franchises. They have a much wider audience. I don't give a higher score because I felt that it could had been bigger. Or had more cinematic sequences. The atmosphere in Bioshock had its pieces more tightly built. The NPCs had actors. The dead bodies. The textures. The environment itself. In contrast, Prey is very much clean and the enemies are all strange black creatures devoid of personalities.
I have no idea why they went for Cryengine for this game. It seems that up close the normal maps are all affected by bad compression artifacts. Many many textures have pixelated artifacts up close.
