Heavy Rain
I'm sorry David Cage and lovers of this game. I played Detroit first and because of this HR felt a heavily flawed game. I played until the police station. I gave up the moment the officer asked about what time it was when Shaun disappeared. David Cage couldn't decide between a movie and a game. I know the time it was for me, but I didn't pay attention to the time in the game. They really confused the player and the characters.
The camera angles really feel like a movie, not a game.
In Detroit there are invisible walls that block the player and there is a warning sign with red text that tells you your objective. In HR the char just turns around and you have to press a button to hear what the character is thinking.
The same issue with one word that mislead choices in Detroit is even worse in HR. The choices spin around and even shake on screen, making it hard to read. In Detroit you at least have an on screen bar that shows you that time is running out.
Excessive QTE usage. Open door, then close door. Why not just one QTE to enter or exit? In Detroit the game was designed in a way that forces the player to do things in a certain order that matches the flow of the storyline itself. In HR you are often left without clues about what to do and where to go. Even the QTE buttons are more intuitive in Detroit than in HR.
The VR googles feel out of place. They would fit better in Detroit's futuristic setting. The character sitting down and creating a VR world around him feels a gimmick to showcase graphics because it doesn't add anything special to the story itself. What is the relationship between VR usage and drug addiction? When the evidences show up in VR I noticed that they confused right x left with clockwise x anti-clockwise because from the perspective of the player the direction is reversed compared to the perspective of the character in the game's world.
The blackouts of Ethan are so sudden. The nightmare parts in Max Payne were better executed.
Voice acting in Detroit is much superior.
I watched one more hour of the game in youtube and decided to abandon it. Detroit just fixed this extremely sluggish gameplay of HR. This game would need a major remake to be playable in modern standards.
