I noticed how Resistance evolved from the first to the third game of the series. Better graphics, better mechanics, better storyline, better gameplay. I think that they reached the limits of the PS3's hardware. I liked the weapons XP system. You gain XP by killing with it and after a certain amount you gain a new level in that weapon. Better than what Wolfenstein did with achievements "kill 20, 30 headshots, 10 grenades, etc".

The level design is better than the previous Resistance. The same can be said about the bosses and scripted events. I didn't like the avoid the water parts in the previous. They felt artificial obstacles. In Resistance 3 they integrated the destruction in a way that feels more natural and the obstacles feel more natural. There is still some platforming but it feels better, unlike the previous which had cars floating in water for you to jump onto. The dark horror parts of the game are also improved over the previous. It's not horror in the same way that Metro 2033 did, but it has its share of scary moments.

I don't know why the devs decided to not include vehicles in the second and third games of the series. In spite of being somewhat of a purist FPS game they were still able to create very fun and creative on rails levels. The train and the Mississipi river ones. There are creative missions such as having to carry some power core while being escorted by a NPC and then the reverse. You escort while the NPC carries the weight. The boss battles improved and became more tactical than before. The level design of the boss levels is also better.

The storyline and cinematics improved over the previous games. The transition between each chapter is smoother than the previous games. My only nitpick is the end of the train level. Who wrote the script? It's anticlimax with that sudden loss and then you are forced to fight in an arena with a hammer. That prison level felt off because what is that gang and sub villain doing when there is an alien race invading the planet?

PS: This game is unstable in rpcs3. Lots of crashes and freezes. Disable vertex cache and try the alternative SPU recompiler.
