Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

From Henry's personal library

I had high expectations for this, but they were severely frustrated.

  • Who had this idea of limiting the health to 50? When you pick up more than 50 health it drains over time back to 50.
  • Unbalanced game. Easy parts mixed up with impossible parts. This ruins the feeling of a steady progression.
  • What happened to the boss battles from the previous game?
  • Confusing level design. There are alternate paths that serve for nothing and make the player get lost. It reminds me of Shadow Warrior with lights guiding the player to dead ends while the goal is obscured, hidden in the dark. I have the impression that they focused on graphics and forgot the design.
  • The stealth in this game fails. You can't have both an action and a stealth game in one. They are opposite game styles.
  • The level design direction must have changed, because they placed commanders in illogical positions
  • Missions that last 5 minutes followed by a 10 minutes long cutscene. Really?
  • In Portal they attached springers to the character's legs to explain to the players why they can fall from very high locations without taking damage. In Wolfestein 2 the player has an armor which seems to be an imitation of Iron Man's suit. I'd expect the player to feel a superhuman, like what Crysis did in the past. But no, the player is fragile and cannot hold his or her breath for more than 10s underwater. Really?
  • What happened to the levels with vehicles?

I played up to 50% of the campaign and dropped it. Somehow the previous game flows better.
